This album is the quintessential Natalie Merchant that cannot be passed up. Natalie's voice is the most beautiful, soulful and meaningful I've ever heard. She will be in my top 3 for the rest of my life, without doubt. This album is as close to perfection as you can get in my book.

Everyone should have this album in their collection. I bought the recent/ new 2015 version (Paradise is There) and it just reminded how good the original is. Not sure it needed to be remade, but I'm glad it reminded me of the original and I'm out now $20 for both. Hah.

Natalie is the most gifted songwriter. Her music is as close to art as "pop" music can get. This record is classic.
  • No "Sympathy for the Devil"

This is a great album, one of my favorite female vocalists of all time, but the omission of the cover of The Rolling Stones "Sympathy for the Devil" is unforgiveable. Not sure why it is missing, perhaps because it was a re-release bonus (I think) but it is definitely my favorite version of that song. iTunes is always missing something...

I was a 10, 000 maniacs fan and truly heartbroken, when I heard she was going solo. However, having owned "Tigerlllly" I grown accustomed to Natalie's creative passion. She has grown as an artist and songwriter. "Carnival" and "Wonder" seemed to have been the hits on the radio, but I think she really delivers a great performance on "Seven Years" . I also love her tribute to River Phoenix on "River"; such a heartfelt piece.

Hauntingly beautiful voice and equally beautiful music. My favorite female singer and songwriter of all time.
