For those of you who are old enough to remember when this album came out it was issued as a one disc album but the packaging opened like a sort of binder with lots of pictures inside and the back of the packaging had the same kind of picture of her that is on the front but with a funny face and the title on the back said "Barbara Joan Streisand" I loved the subtle difference at that time. For those of you who are to young to remember I hope you get what I mean. Anyways. I love this album the standouts are "Beautiful", "I Never Meant To Hurt You", "One Less Bell To Answer/A House Is Not A Home", "Space Captain", " Since I Fell For You" and "The Summer Knows".

I know the famous medley, duet of One Less Bell - A House Is Not A Home are from this album but then real gem is John Lennon's Mother. Ms. Streisand's voice never has sounded more beautiful or full of conviction of what she has always known, that she posses a voice that only god will give out once in our life times. And God gave it to Barbra Joan Streisand. For this I am truly grateful. Thank you Jesus!!!!

I like this album, Barbra's eighteenth studio project is more or less a tribute album to Carole King and it's well sung. a standout track is track 5, Barbra overdubbed her vocal to duet with herself, the track will find a home on her "Duets" compilation released a few years ago. Two more tracks need attention, "Since I Fell For You" and "The Summer Knows." I do question the Becker/Fagan selection, even though Steely Dan wasn't yet formed, the Becker/Fagan compositions stand out on their own and other artist's have trouble covering them, I had the opportunity to hear Donny and Marie Osmond sing "Reeling In The Years" and they missed the point, it was sick. A previous reviewer stated the "Barbra Joan Streisand" lp the weakest lp in Barbra's catalog but I disagree, the weakest is yet to come, the mis-produced "Butterfly."

Perhaps the weakest album in Streisand's long and illustious career catalogue. This early 70's original release continued the transition started in the late 60's of recording more contemporary pop material written by some of the best songwriters of the time. Unfortunately, the material chosen, especially for this album, was often ill suited for the vocalist. Even on material better suited to her such as You,ve Got a Friend, and One Less Bell To Answer/ A House Is Not A Home, her versions are not noteworthy. This is most definately not an essential release from this great singer.

This is one of her best! John Lennons' Mother is over the top. Beautiful and You've Got a Friend are sung beautifully. Love is well "Lovely".

Even though Barbra redid some very popular songs at the time she definately made them her own, this is a very good album even though no one has really even heard of it. For Barbra Streisand fans this is a must.
