When I was 8 my sister dragged me to see Funny Girl, the movie, and I was blown away by her voice. I went out the next day and bought the album. Remains one of my favorites to this day.
The Summary Of The First Decade

This lp summarizes Barbra's first decade in her career with a few overlooked lp's. This "Greatest Hits" lp is short, clocking in at just under thirty minutes so there was room for expansion. Nothing from her third lp, "Simply Streisand", her Christmas lp ("My Favorite Things" would have worked), "What About Today", "Hello Dolly," and "On A Clear Day," is present. What is here is an amazing collection of songs that represent an amazing first "phase" of an amazing career. After this release in 1969 Barbra would re-invent herself for phase two to become a commercial star. This cd was released in 1986 and was not "remastered," just transferred from analog to digital, the album sources for the songs here have been remastered so for sound quality I'd seek out those sources and use this lp as an index.

This is the BEST!!! I grew up with this record and know EVERY word. Thank you Barbara for making such a great album. My sisters and I sing "My Man" at the top of our lungs when we play it. So many great hits that never get old....Seriously this is the best!!!!

But this collection of early Streisand recordings is pretty amazing. Growing up with the 70's, 80's and 90's Barbra, I wasn't so impressed. Her ego and self-consciousness seemed to overshadow her talent. It took listening to these 60's recordings for me to realize what all the fuss was about in the first place. A classic album.
