  • High quality album from Bananarama

From 1985 until 2012, I only had one Bananarama album -- their self-titled sophomore album (with "Cruel Summer" on it). I also had a few singles. In 2012, I got Bananarama's 2009 30th anniversary album Viva (their tenth album), which is *fantastic*! I was so crazy about that album that I became a solid Bananarama fan and began collecting their other albums. I bought their subsequent EP first, Now or Never (2012), and then started working backwards, getting their 2005 album Drama (their ninth) and their 1995 album Ultra Violet (their seventh) at the same time. While I was sure there could never be another Bananarama album as good as Viva, and thus I was not expecting these others to be quite as good, Drama is definitely one of their strongest albums. After the powerful excitement of Viva, Drama seems tame, but still the songs are high quality and there is a lot of variety on here. For comparison, I found Ultra Violet to be quite disappointing -- little variety and lacking in passionate performance. So, I bought Drama and Ultra Violet at the same time, but nearly all my playing went to Drama. In addition to the great songs of the original album Drama, the bonus track of the Marc Almond remix of "Venus" is exciting! I have several remixes of "Venus," but this is by far my favorite remix.

If you think Bananarama ended in the 80s, think again. This is a great set of tracks for the gal who still likes to get out for the night ("Don't Step on My Groove"), but hasn't left all her common sense behind. This feels a secret soundtrack to a London version of Sex in the City. Enjoy it at the disco or on a road trip with your friends.
