  • One of Glass's Best

There's a lot of Glass's music that I just can't stand; but this album is fantastic. Simple and elegant instead of overly redundant. The performance is impeccable as well.

I must say that I was very much impressed with what Mr. Glass and the Kronos Quartet put together. At first listen the melodies can seem simple, but as you settle into the Glass style you will find subtle nuances to the harmonies and counter points that allow the ear to follow new themes with every listen. I have heard some criticisms of the the simplicity of No. 3 and listened carefully with the critiques in mind; I believe the criticism is warranted, however those that listen to Glass regularly should be used to his use of repetition to build trance like intrigue and given the brilliance of the man I give him the benefit of the doubt that this was his intent. In my opinion Glass is one of the great contemporary composers and the Kronos Quartet to be the perfect technical compliment to his unique style. This is a must have for any contemporary classical collection.

This is an amazing compilation, and played very well by the Kronos Quartet. I LOVE the final two tracks, they are wonderful. This album is really worth it, espescially for the Philip Glass fans.
  • I still listen to it quite a bit

Having bought this CD when it was released you would think that it would have long since faded from my playlist, but I still listen to this music fairly frequently. I wouldn't say its for everyone, but if you've ever been mezmorized by a string quartet playing hauntingly beautiful music at the peak of their abilities, then I think you will enjoy this. I give it four our of five because String Quartet No. 3 is not on the same level of quality as the other three pieces.

Brilliant. Anyone who enjoys listening to classical music will be enamoured with the Kronos Quartet. I, myself, am a big fan of the String Quartet No. 5: I-V.
