its so tempting to rate this based on previous work and how tied to that work i am but to be honest this wasnt at all what i was expecting and im not nearly as enthralled with it as i have been with other releases. from the early days of something like silas erics song-crafting ability has been vividly displayed time after time, from twilight to the ttravel series and the advent releases there is something enthralling about each one. moments that capture the imagination, swelling orchestrations that lift the heart, and lyrical content that draws from a deep well; there is always something beautiful going on in a fof release. but with all that said this release is not the sort of next step it seemed was bound to be on the horizon for fof. instead its a fairly decent listen with a couple of bright spots in the songs in come alive and things that we should say. the rest of the songs arent bad, in fact they are better than most of the inanae drivel that makes it onto the radio stations, but they fall short of eric and his carousel of bandmates capabilities and they fail to follow the trajectory of innovative musical prowess seen in previous releases. for this reason im giving one of my favorite bands 3 stars and hoping that its just a lull before the storm of unequivocal awesomeness that is still ahead.

As I listened I was slightly disappointed on the “lack” of power house surprises (colors in array). As it wasn’t what I expected, hence my disappointment. Having said that and after listening to it multiple times I realized its sure brilliance. This album is perfect for “main streaming”. Hopefully, this album will broaden FOFs fan base. The nature of the album and specifically songs such as Someone are right on par with what is popular. Eric manages to stick true to himself and his style, yet reinvents himself all at the same time. Chants, simple melodies, “indie” music is all in right now; combine that with their creativity and variation of instruments this production could give FOF the respect they deserve and should without a doubt get them noticed outside of their current realm. All in all the album is perfect for catching the eye of the public and is a wonderful change of pace.

I don't know why this band isn't more popular. They're great. Calm, and collective. Hopefully they'll start to get more credit, the credit they really deserve.
  • Fantastic album! New fan.

I really enjoyed sitting at the computer and blaring the music samples for this album. I closed my eyes and I felt immediately connected to something bigger then me. Thank you.

Eric is capable of some excellent songwriting and musicianship. This album sounds like a demo reel. Very basic sound lacking his usual eclectic instruments. Pop pap. First few songs show promise but the remainder are a colossal letdown compared to the Travel EPs. Hope the next one is better.

I'm going to give this album a fair review. I didn't want to give it 5 stars simply based on how much I appreciate the band and how supremely talented they are. That being said, I felt like they played it safe on this album. There wasn't as much movement or progression on the songs--no surprises, like I felt were on previous albums. Overall, found the album to be a tad boring. I'd put the Travel Series in my top 10 favorite albums of all time, so maybe my expectations were too high for this release. I appreciate and can see how versatile they are in playing a different sound on this record, but that doesn't mean it's a good thing.
