I just learned today of the passing of Benjamin Curtis, and I thought I'd re-read my review of one of my all-time favorite albums, only to learn that I had inadvertantly never written a review, so here is my "late" review of the 'Now Here Is Nowhere' album. Let me start by saying that I'm a music hound from way back, and I'm probably much older than most of the people reading this review, but I know what I like, and I tend to like albums that involve varied tempos, moods, and styles, and that emotionally pull in the listener. Some of my all-time favorite albums include Dark Side of The Moon by Pink Floyd, Wrecking Ball by Emmylou Harris, OK Computer by Radiohead, ( ) by Sigur Ros, The Suburbs by Arcade Fire, and In The Court of The Crimson King by King Crimson. In my humble opinion, 'Now Here Is Nowhere' is in the same league with those masterpieces of mood music. It's full of emotion, it's extremely well-produced and thoughtfully delivered, and it fully engages the listener each and every time. My favorite track is Pharaoh's Daughter, but the entire album is ear candy from start to finish. And like some of the aforementioned masterpiece albums, the whole is significantly greater than the sum of its parts. Happy listening!

This band is very under rated. Nobody has heard about them and that's a tragedy. Every song is honestly amazing

This album is something out of this Planet. Amazing music arrangements! Each song is different and few sound like continuation of one another. Great addition to my collection. Highly recommend!!!!

I got into this band after seeing them live in Dallas about 5 yrs ago. They blew me away! I couldn't help but compare them to my fav band of all-time Pink Floyd. Its really more like a Pink Floyd meets Rush meets Radiohead kind of sound but still totally original itself. I can see this band taking rock to the next level. I sure hope so!

Secret Machines have molded something really great out of stuff that's already been done. The drums sound great, as do the vocals. All of the instruments blend so well together-the sound will knock you off your feet. Secret Machines is a great band, and this is a great album from them.
  • People are morons with no musical taste...

This album simply has too much flavor for the average ear to digest. I feel sorry for anyone who can't acquire a taste for these guys. Unfortunately all of the so called DJ's in the Los Angeles area have their ears full of fast food garbage music and will never expand their musical appetite. Death to radio...Long live the Secret Machines!!!

With so many one hit wonder wanna be rock kids it’s nice to hear something truly awesome. No wonder the "industry" hasn’t really got behind these guys

I've owned this album for quite a while now, and I have to say, it never gets boring or tired. The Secret Machines have an uncanny talent for writing and composing songs that can blow you out of the water one moment, and ease you back the next. With songs like 'Sad and Lonely,' 'The Road Leads Where It's Led,' and 'Pharaoh's Daughter,' this album is a rock masterpiece. Take a listen to the album, and if you get the chance, see them live - no studio album can compare to the atmosphere of their shows. Phenomenal!
