  • Disappointed

The Classic Crime has always been a band of great music in synch with great and powerful lyrics. The music in this album is really well done. Unfortunately, the lyrics are disappointing and the use of profanity is unnecessary. Their music used to make me think about purpose and life. This album does the opposite. After their masterpiece Phoenix, I was excited to hear about this album. It was just disappointing that the band took a such dramatic turn.
  • Shaky but honest

I must agree that this album flirts with boundaries regarding some of the lyrical content. The Classic Crime I've known for a long time has always been incredibly passionate and honest in their music. With that said, this album takes that honesty to a new level - one that may not be well-received. I like the album and I can't reject a band that inspired me, over something I'm obviously guilty of; I just hope (lyrically) it's not an indefinite change.

Profanity? This is the same group that I loved? To those that don't understand the dislike of the profanity... you won't get it and I would not expect you to... but to those of us who don't need profanity to live as humans... it is unnecessary and juvenile.

I am creating a flash drive with mine and my son's favorite music. TCC just fell off that list. C'est la vie.
  • I love how The Classic Crime grows and changes

I love music and bands that change over time. The music changes because we change, change is a normal thing that we must embrace sometimes. Classic Crime, thank you for this inspiring album. It was well received! Press on to more good music! Love y'all! P.S. your sound is still so awesome!!
  • I have grown to really love this album.

While I am a proud Kickstarter backer of this album, I wasn't sure how to feel about this album after my first couple of listens due to its questionable lyrical content. However, after listening to Matt's podcast (Don't Feed The Trolls) about the meanings behind the songs and few more listens, I have grown to really admire the work they put into this album. The lyrics are brutally honest and get straight to the point. Holy Water, Not Done With You Yet, Ghost, and More are most definitely the highlights on this album and I would recommend giving this a few listens before drawing any conclusions about it.
  • I'm not done with them yet.

I really love this album and was proud to get it a little early. I cannot say it is my favorite album by them, but it is a good come back, and I REALLY hope it isn't their last, because they are one of my top three favorite bands. I think it is kinda like Blink-182's "California," in that it is the first album after a haitus, which will hopefully lead to an even better one.

Holy Water is a great song, Not Done With You Yet is a good song with a great purpose. The rest of the album is filler. Ghost is cheesy and seems to be written as just a shallow reach of a single. I'll be listening to Holy Water for a long time, but really disappointed in this album. As far as the vulgarity goes, the "gd" in Holy Water is a clever use of lyrics. The random f-bomb in Wonder is awkwardly thrown in there and seems forced. It almost maks me think of a little kid trying to use "adult words" around his friends to seem cool. I know some members of TCC are part of that "Bad Christian" brand with members from Emery, and I don't consider myself legalistic at all. But they have portrayed themselves as being Christian, and lead a career making music that lacks vulgarity while breaking the cheesy trend of other christian music. So this is a disappointment. A lot of people are cautious about what they listen to, and for those people it is difficult to find bands that offer creative, relatable, good music without vulgarity. TCC was a big fish in that small pond of bands. This album deprives those fans of another avenue of good music.

You'll like this album. Personally, I found it sorely below the quality of Albatross or The Silver Cord. The lyrical content is, while 'raw', unimaginative and forgettable. Holy Water, while unique in theme compare to the aforementioned albums, is just hard to care about. Wonder--which seems to have ruffled some feathers in the CCM community--is more boring than anything. This might be edgy in CCM, but when Mumford and Sons has a #1 global hit with f^^^ in the chorus. In all honesty, I get the feeling the members have either renounced or are in route to leaving their faith behind. It's the kind of doubt that is edgy for the sake of sounding real, but doesn't illuminate anything toward growth. As say Abracadavers or The Coldest Heart or Medisin did. Those songs still move me toward introspection and growth today. Not a terrible album, but I'm not paying for it like I did Phoenix, The Silver Cord or Albatross.
