  • Who do I have to F to get a legit recording of the Bent score?

Seriously? I've been waiting for 10 years to get a recording of the intensely emotional Bent score, and this tepid recording is all they give me? This is about the 10th recording of Mishima and Buczak available on itunes, and there are a million recordings of Company on here. The Brooklyn Rider versions are decent, but the Michael Riesman and Smith Quartet versions are superior. Why is it impossible to come up with more and better recordings of the Bent score?

This group is the farthest thing from 'some string quartet'! I saw them perform live at my college two weeks ago and they blew EVERYONE out of the water with their personal and intimate performance. At the concert they played the 'Bent' suite and I fell in love. Earlier in the day the group worked a master class with my saxophone quartet and we performed Glass' Saxophone Quartet. They had so much insight to offer with his music that one could only amass after recording all of Glass' string music. They are some of the best!
  • Great and different interpretations

WHAT a surprise, "Boolez" didn't like a Philip Glass record (again). This is actually a nice collection and very different from the Kronos, Carducci, and Smith Quartet versions. Plus this adds the world premiere recording of Suite from BENT for String Quartet.

Another bland recording of the Glass quartets by some string quartet on Glasses own label. The recording itself is far too over-produced to get a sense of how well the quartet can play. The inclusion of the suite from "Bent" is no real revelation. It remains the same old Glass we've come to expect. If you have a recording of these quartets there is no need to get this one unless you're part of the cult of Glass. -Bz
