First of all this is not pop, this is jazz. One of two classic gems from Donald Byrd with his 125 Street, N.Y.C projects. The other being the Love Byrd album. This along with the Love Byrd usher in the fusion/R&B/funk sound that began to dominate the '80s. One par with the major players of the time like Jeff Lorber, Bob James, Rodney Franklin, Tom Scott, David Sanborn, Grover Washington, and the likes. Donald Byrd agains show his understanding of the times. From his hard bop of the 50's and 60's, to the groundbreaking Black Byrd album in the 70's, to the Love Byrd album in the '80's, to his triumphant return to bop in the 90's, Donald Byrd has stood the test of time.
