O'connors latest music leaves me rather cold but this album captures him at his best, it's about as good as his fiddle concerto which I wish Itunes would post here some day. Some critics complain that this is just another bad rip-off of Copland. While Copland's influence is obvious it is by no means a cheap imitation. It's well thoughtout stuff that anyone can like.

This is an excellent purchase for anyone interested in American music, Mark O'Connor, or anyone who is feeling, to quote from the liner notes, "burdened by a sense of [classical music's] own refinment". It offers down-to-earth music that is enjoying to listen to for the sake of listening. A must-have for any modern-composition classical fan.
