  • The Mighty One

The Mighty Pharoah breaks gravitational field and moves to accendent master on this - The Journey One. With the possible eception of McCoy - John Hicks is perhaps the most perfect keyboard match for Sanders, and he is on full display. Great counter-points and pleanty of diveristy of compositions makes this a must have.

I have to thank the game Ape Out for letting me know that something this magnificent exists and that I have gone in life without knowing until the moment credits rolled. This is real music, and I will share it so more people know about it.

I'm a huge Pharoah fan. As a whole, this might be the very best of his albums. And it might just be that you need to be a seasoned Pharoah fan to appreciate the fullness of the beauty of this album.

I've been listening to this genius since high school when I bought the new lp release of Karma. I've seen Pharoah play at the East in Brooklyn, at the Keystone in San Francisco and at the Rialto in Atlanta over the past four decades. Journey to the One was long a favorite of mine but the album was lost. The Apple Genius indicated it was available on itunes. I bought it, I love it and I'm sure if you know or want to know anything about the hard jazz of the 60's, about the innovations, tenderness, frustration and beauty of its creators, you will appreciate stepping out on this Journey. The critics can explain these songs; I just listen and travel with these amazing musicians. Buy this and take a ride.

This album was surprising to me because I'd heard three tracks which were kazuko after the rain and soldedad... when I heard these (especially soldedad) it was almost enlightening with such a spiritual sound. Then I got the album and found some more good tracks on it, and then I heard 'think about the one.' What the HELL is that doing on this album?? anyways do I think it's worth the buy... yes absolutely there are some truly amazing tracks on here but at the same time one or two really wierd kinda corny ones as well... give it a listen!

This is a true classic, featuring the late John Hicks, a pianist whose contributions to Jazz were monumental. Just dig the soundclip for You've Got To Have Freedom.
