Not only does this embody the true pan-African spirit: it represents the spirit of Islam as well. Because of its religious focus, this album was deemed "controversial" by many reviewers and listeners who took issue with N'Dour's dedication to his faith. What this album truly represents, however, is the long tradition of Diasporic music that attempts to reunite all people of African descent through the medium of culture. N'Dour may be performing with African and Arab beats, in languages not well known outside of these regions, but his impact is felt in Europe, South America, the United States, Canada, the Caribbean, and the Muslim world. Truly remarkable.

I was recently told about my Beloved Brother Youssou N'dour and now that I have become intimately acquainted with his music, I am inspired by his commitment to spreading the message of peace, unity and spiritual one-ness through his music that pays tribute to the Most High and those who are amongst his beloved, Cheikh Amadou Bamba, Cheikh Ibra Fall and even the Holy city of Touba in Senegal, West Africa. Pay close attention to the music - even if you don't understand the words, open your heart and you will hear. The message is of truth and is simply irresistable. Learn more about Cheikh Amadou Bamba. Visit Touba and not only will you hear it, you will see it, smell it, breathe it and live it. Youssou makes it evident that this message is for all of humanity. Djerre Jieuf Youssou! Djerre Seringe Touba! Keep up the good work! Al-hamdoulillah!

I have only had the pleasure of hearing his work a couple of times, but Youssou N'Dour is one of my favorite artists ever. His voice is amazing-- it offsets, for want of a better word, amazing lyrics. You should def. buy this album!

This is my first purchase of Youssou N'Dour's music, and it won't be the last. I just downloaded "Egypt" and am only half-way through listening to it. It is spiritual, beautiful, and such a wonderful and welcome change from what's on the radio these days! Go on with your bad self, Youssou!

I have owned an iPod for less than six months and have downloaded quite a few of my CDs to it as well as bought several others. Egypt is the single most listened-to album. Needless to say, every aspect of this album has been extremely inspiring to me. Did I mention that one needs not understand what Youssou sings about in this album to enjoy it? Well deserved and waaaaayyyyyy overdue Grammy on a true work of art!
