Philip Glass's concertos and symphonies really do it for me. His minimalist roots are evident, but these peices really move. Other qualities that set Glass's music apart from his contemporaries in the minimalist realm are his rich sonic landscapes and playful inventiveness. In the second movement of his 2nd Piano Concerto, he brings in a Native American flute solo - in a piano concerto no less! The movement is light, playful, and joyful - sheer brilliance! And I defy anyone to find a more jubilant, joyful piece of music than the 3rd movement of the Harpsichord Concerto. Don't miss out on the sheer beauty of these two concertos.
