this is a powerful album by a gteat trumpet player and composer. put him with the other monster hardbop n post bop artists: lee morgan, freddie hubbard, woody shaw. "on the nile" is a classic !!!

I bought two tracks, Plight and Mother Wit, 2 bucks for 16 minutes of ethereal beauty, this music is clean, crisp, thoughtful, and all that's great about jazz. I was not too familiar with Charles Tolliver, however, he is obviously a superlative player with great imagination and stylistic grace. Also, the accompanists here all top flight players. In good form too.

Be very happy this hard-to-find is available...not an EP by any means clocking in at over 37 minutes...this album was recorded in 1969 and is one of the most underrated records of all-time! Charles Tolliver should be a household name...one of my deserted on an island choices...SUPERB!!!
