    Stands the test of time.

Tool’s Undertow is in my honest opinion more of a grunge album than a heavy metal one, save the headbangers Intolerance and Crawl Away. And despite it being one of Tool’s most recognizable songs, I find Prison Sex not nearly as amazing as say Vicarious on 10,000 Days. Disgustipated is interesting for the first 5 minutes and then the next 10 are just pointless and Swamp Song I find to be much better than Prison Sex. This isn’t a bad record at all, but as a Tool album it isn’t adventurous enough and plays it too straight most of the time, which isn’t the Tool everyone came to know. As a grunge album, it’s first rate. And I can tell that nu metal was heavily influenced by this album too.

Love this band. Can’t wait to see them in January 2022 in Eugene Oregon:)))
  • 90s Alt/progressive metal at its finest!

While we were being bombarded with the 90s grunge scene from Seattle in the early 90s, all of a sudden we hear a band that is progressive metal and just plain different, like a breath of fresh air! I’m not knocking the 90s grunge seen as it produced some pretty awesome music. This album is just as dark and brooding as the rest. There are not enough words to describe how amazingly talented this band is and they are definitely the real deal when you see them live! Key tracks: Sober, Prison Sex, Bottom. Just to name a few. But to listen to only a few of the favorite tracks on here would be a total disservice to yourself and the band. Download the whole album because it truly is a masterpiece.

This is my first and favorite album by Tool. I saw this tour in a warehouse in 93 when they were relatively unknown and could not believe the intensity of the songs, especially the title cut. This album introduced me to the “tool explosion” which happens toward the end of every song by them, epitomized by Undertow and Bottom.

I feel like this album is just one big song that I can listen to every day, along with their other albums. Maynard is my favorite singer, Danny carry is my inspiration. And I listen to all of Maynard's music every single day because it calms me down. Everyone else might think metal always goes hard but TOOL is a mixture of calm and it goes hard at the same time fr! The reason I like it is because it’s like no other.
