Wow. How can you not like this collection of covers from one of the most influential songwriters in modern music. Martin L. Gore shows us just how creative he can be without the rest of his famous band, Depeche Mode. Constructing crystal clear mellow synth based interpretations of some dusty classics. :) Among the Highlights: By this River Lost in the Stars Das Leid Vom einsamen Madchen

Who the heck wrote the itunes review? Goofy? I thought he breathed soul into the Nick's version of Loverman which is more cruel (still great) sounding. He wasn't trying to be cruel. He sounded more like a bluesman backed with electronic music.

Martin L. Gore is an Amazing Artist ! An outstanding singer songwriter in a class all by himself and his synthesizer engineering and drum programming is uniquely superb ! A genius among the stars. A very cool musical spirit !

The underdog of Depeche Mode shines on his solo's, whereas Dave the Sexpot of the group lacks a bit on his.. I LOVE THIS cd SO MUCH I GAVE ONE TO MY EX AND ONE TO MY BEST FRIEND ALL COVER SONGS BY OTHER ARTISTS (HENCE COUNTERFEIT 2) HE DID A COUNTERFEIT IN THE EIGHTIES (WHICH SOUNDS A BIT DATED, BUT GOOD AS WELL) BEWARE SHINY HAPPY PEOPLE, THIS ONE IS A BIT DARK AND DEEP. MARTIN HAS WON ME OVER, THE IRONY, HE WRITES ALL OF DEPECHE MODE SONGS, BUT THESE ARE COVERS.

This is probably one of my favorite albums of all time. The songs are eclectic but fantastic together and I like Martin's rendition of some of the songs much better than the originals. Stardust and Loverman are by far the best on the album.

I listen to this album almost every day. I originally started listening to Depeche Mode, then to Dave Gahan's solo stuff... and then I was turned onto this by hearing about it from a friend. Martin's voice sounds great and I love the laid-back feel of the entire album. It's very good for late-night listening. The best track, in my opinion, has to be In My Other World (originally done by Julee Cruise) - it's just gorgeous - "In my other world, my pain is bliss, I own your soul... I own your kiss." It suits him perfectly.

This is just a great album it really shows what Martin can do. It is also very intresting to hear what he listens to and where he gets his inspiration from.

I was sad that Conterfeit (the original could not be found on i-tunes. I loved that album when it came out. I would really like to find that.

As a long time fan; listening to DM's earlier work to this album shows just how much Martin Gore has grown as an artist. A wonderfully creative album with subtle touches from a musical genius. The album is a must for DM fans. Highly recommend.

I guess was biased to give this album a good review since I the first song I heard sung by Martin Gore, "Judas" from Songs of Faith and Devotion... but wow, this is great. My favorite song is "Loverman" (which by the way, is very addictive....consider yourself warned)...but, get the whole album, his voice is amazing. On a side note, get the CD (not on itunes). Itunes derserves to loose customers, saying that Dave Gahan has a bad voice....who ever writes these reviews should get a hearing aid!
