All Zemira wants is freedom from the chains that bind her to the king, and if she finds the relic she'll have it. But the Court of Dreams is more dangerous than she ever expected, and Zemira must soon choose between her freedom—and her heart.

  • Cliffhanger but what a ride!

Zamira is “not quite a fae”princess whose father has tasked her with stealing the Dragon’s Heart, a relic that can break a curse on his people. The relic is located in a fae court that is ruled by Prince Keir. She assumes the identity of another princess to get into Keir’s court and unwittingly gains his attention and affection. While at his court the fae princesses are being murdered and Zamira is stuck in the middle of it. Keir and Zamira start out as reluctant admirers but then she does something that betrays his trust and he exacts a price that she cannot refuse to pay. This book is the first in a series and it’s a great beginning despite the cliffhanger. McMaster is wonderful at creating worlds and the characters that inhabit them. Keir and Zamira are a couple whose story I’ve become invested in and who I want to know more about. And McMaster is guaranteed to give me the action, adventure, and love story that I crave.

The moment I started this, I couldn’t put the book down. I love the story and the characters and cannot wait to read the next book!

This was the first book I have read by this author, I enjoyed the intrigue, drama and the characters. I also enjoyed the twist on fae lore, I liked this new version. What I didn’t like was how quickly the prince turned on the FMC after she warned him and saved him. This ends on a cliffhanger which is a pet peeve of mine, even with that I would recommend it. It flows well and the characters are relatable.
  • Bec knows how to write

Let’s start by saying I love Bec’s work. I got hooked in with her London Steampunk & Blueblood Conspiracy. Burned Lands & the Dragons kept me hooked. I’ve reread each multiple times. This one is very different then the others I’ve read. Not sure how I feel about it yet. I will warn you it’s a cliffhanger. Pros: it’s well written, characters developed well, an easy read for the end of a long day Cons: there were no surprises. Now i read a lot of mysteries so I’m used to looking for the signs but this one was pretty obvious from the start. At least to me. All in all… I’m not sure yet. I may get the others later just because it’s her work & I want to support her but I’m not sure how much I like this one. I need to sleep on this & see if our heroine’s fate starts to nag at me like her other works do. In the meantime give it a try for yourself then pick up everything else she’s written. This certainly gave me the need to revisit London.
