Description

Forgery in Christianity is Joseph Wheless's vociferous and incendiary critique of Christianity and the figure of Jesus Christ.

In firm opposition of Christian dogma, Joseph Wheless would author several books and essays on the subject of religions, with particular scorn reserved for the Christian faith. Wheless's systematic identification of what he viewed as flaws, contradictions and forgeries present in the religion are presented to the reader in an attempt to persuade and undermine Christianity as a credible entity worthy of belief.

In contrast to the accepted scholarly views of his time, Wheless was particularly opposed to the idea that Jesus Christ existed. To this end, large tracts of this book are devoted to disproving the existence of Christ, positing that Christ himself was a myth created by the early figures of Christianity to further the establishment of the faith and its guiding principles among early believers.

Born in Tennessee, it was with humour and withering sarcasm that Joseph Wheless mounted his opposition to the Christian faith. Somewhat notorious in the religious Deep South, Wheless nevertheless became a successful lawyer noted for his passionate defenses of atheistic and free-thinking organizations. Born Methodist, it was when he applied lawyerly scrutiny to the gospel documents and their sources that he became firmly convinced of their falsehood.
