I am a singer and an instrumentalist, so I obviously listen/hear a LOT of music. The movie itself is wonderfully moving, deeply sad, and for reasons of which I will spare you, it really hits home. The bottom line is that the music is just fabulous. If you are a fan of 40's music, (my favorite genre) emotionally moving songs, and especially Bette, you can't lose with this one!

My husband and I danced our first dance at our wedding to the song "Come Rain or Come Shine" by Bette! I think it's a beautiful song, and one that rings true in a good marriage. Cause believe me, there will be rain!

Hard to believe someone could not like the movie...yes it is sad...most stories of war are, but it's also about perseverence. Bette Midler is fabulous in anything she does - has never done a movie or sang a song I didn't like. My mom remembers WWII very well - she loved this movie and the music - took her back in time. Watch the movie - the soundtrack then makes a whole lot more sense - you'll want to listen to it again and again and again!

This album is great. It shows Bette's amazing voice wonderfully. The song Every road leads back to you will make you cry and the first two songs on the album are very good too. This movie was not bad just not her best, but the album I recomend.
  • Bette and the Soundtrack much better than the movie

All the pieces here are wonderful and capture some of the vocal style Bette would latter display on tributes to Peggy Lee and Rosemary Clooney. Only weak numbers here are ones that don't stand alone outside of the film (tracks 4, 5, 8,). Bette captures an era gone bye with an easy style and channels Betty Hutton on "Stuff Like That There". Every Road Leads Back to You played over film credits and was more for radio play and listeners who liked "From a Distance". Add Dreamland to your holiday music play list!
