Great compilation of classics from Peru. Buy this album, now! Also check out Volume 2. Both will give you a greater respect for Peruvian, and Latin American music in general.

A must Peruvian Cumbia Classic Collection. Dance the very unique exotic sensual beat of the most famous leaders of cumbia in Peru. You will love it.

Definitely worth every cent. It is such a shame that more people do not know about this obscure genre of music. I especially recommend Elsa and A Patricia. Great album--someone needs to compile more chicha and get it up here.

I knew nothing of Chicha prior to hearing about this album on NPR. The clips I heard on the radio were intriguing enough for me to come look for it on iTunes. If your music library is filled with an eclectic mix, this is a great addition!

This compilation is fantastic. Joyous, funky, kitschy, rootsy, earthy, and funny (check out the fabulous chicha tribute to Beethoven's "Fur Elise"). Chicha is from 1960's Peru, and in it you can hear indigenous music gone hybrid, with electrified instruments that remind you of the groups and vocalists that influenced it, from the Ventures and Dusty Springfield to psychedelic pop and Brazilian-tinged lounge. When I put it on I can't stop dancing. In my beehive wig.
