Soothing, almost Haunting Masterpiece

This album is one of Vangelis' best at smoothly blending synthetic and organic. The voices are at first bold, then haunting, then reflective, then hopeful. Like many great Vangelis albums, this is one to listen to quietly and from start to finish. It is impossible to not be humming these tunes all day long.

Vangelis is a genius in electronic music. From a person who does not read or write music, he has been one of the best composers of all time. His music inspired me since childhood and will forever. There are other great electronic artists out there - Tangerine Dream, Kitaro, Tomita, etc but Vangelis goes a step higher. Out of the many records he has produced, I only disliked two - Invisible Connections and Beaubourg. Both of these stepped away from his style. They were basically a collection of
synth sounds put into an album. Other than that, what great music this man has produced. L'Apocalypse des Animaux was a classic back then - great relaxing synth music - all the way to his new stuff. On this album, Voices, and as mentioned before, the track "Messages" is missing. I think this is my top Vangelis song of all time. It combines all his talents - classical, electronic, etc into a great melody. This song is perfect for travelling over mountains, landscapes, etc. It is very peaceful. Antarctica and others are great but Messages, I believe, is his number one....a classic that is highly underrated. We wish for more great music
from this man for many years to come. Let's hope God gives us Vangelis for a while more in this world of rubbish rap music which is poisoning humanity!
REALLY NO NEED FOR A TITLE

There is something compelling about this album. It's not the 'Voices' or 'Echoes' or even the captivating vocals on 'Come to me' and 'Ask the Mountain', it's what lies beneath. Vangelis is a musical magician and he draws us in with the clever vocal orchestration and arrangements on these tracks, but we are propelled along by something else. It's the beat. Listen to it, it's also your heartbeat. Like a march, it's rapid, strong and pumping at first in 'Voices', slowing to a walk in 'Echoes' and then you are barely aware of it by the time you reach the the appropriately titled 'Losing sleep (Still. My heart)'. The remaining tracks gently take us out of our reverie.
What gives?

I am somewhat confused as to why the track "Prelude" is not being instantly recognized as one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written. The reviews go on about all the other tracks and leave Prelude unmentioned. Are you people deaf??? I mean that in the nicest way possible, but come on!
Vangelis has been one of my top favorite musical artists since I was very young. It was thanks to my father that I got exposed to this kind of music and how I developed a fondness for it.
But this man is King when it comes to beauty, there are so many pieces which are emotionally powerful and bring tears to my eyes.
But listen to Prelude, and tell me you have heard something more beautiful than that. If you have, I want to know what it is. God Bless You, Vangelis!
One of Vangelis' Best

I bought the album a while ago and love it - not one or two songs, not most of the album - the whole thing.
I think Voices is a bit more meditative than his soundtrack scores, but equally or perhaps more stirring emotionally.
Tracks 7 and 8 are the best.
Come to Me is the best thing about this album

I've been a huge Vangelis fan since the early 80's and while I liked this, it wasn't anywhere close to Direct or Heaven and Hell. Still the song "Come to Me" is so haunting and lovely I keep coming back to this album for this song alone. I put this tune on my first son's birthing tape and didn't mind having to listen to it over and over again over the 40 some hours I was in labor.
I love this album

In my opinion, this is one of Vangelis' best works. Definitely worth checking this one out.
However, iTunes is missing the track "Messages" from this album (hence my rating of 4/5). I personally think it's one of the best, if not the best, track on this album. At least do some research and find out what you’re missing before you go buy this on iTunes. It really is a great song.
P.S. Most people like "Dream in an Open Place" the best.
