There are moments that you remember for a life time, Juan Luis Guerra y su 4:40 live in the estadio olímpico in Santo Domingo is one of those moments for me. It was my first concert evert, I was only 13. Bachata Rosa is one of those album that transcends generations. Timeless.

This is the classic album that took Santo Domingo's bachata style around the globe. An amazing string of eminently danceable numbers in Spanish lyrics that are themselves hallmarks of a master of el merengue in all its variants (check his other great albums, too). Beny Moré's crown as singer/songwriter went directly to El Doninicano Alto Juan Luis. My #1 MOST recommended Spanish Caribbean dance album in two generations. JLG studied at Berklee College in Boston and his arranging benefits from jazz chords and the tightest percussion section ever, still touring.

What a great album! It takes me back to 1989 every time I listen to this. These songs were everywhere.

I grew on up this tape. My mom played it every saturday morning and we just loved the music. Now that I'm old enough to understand the lyrics I love it even more.

Poet Lauerate of Santo Domingo

Without a doubt I think Juan Luis Guerra has been the best of everything that has come from Santo Domingo. His music is poetry in motion and many times with a political statement regardimg the issues that the Republic of SD still faces today.
His words, rhythm and the coolness complement him as no other. In this time of reggaton, his presence is reassurance that there is stil a deep appreciation of excellent music in our language.
Juan Luis Guerra is a treasure of what is good in this world today.
