  • Not a Classic Heart monger favorite!

For me, the classic Heart sound ends with Bebe Le Strange, then picks back up with the, seemingly unnoticed, recording of Jupiter's Darling. I thought I'd give Passionworks a chance based on the other reviews, but now wish I hadn't. This recording begins the "phase" that Heart went through that lasted through the 90's: That plastic-y, computerized, over studio-ed, NOT classic Heart sound.

most of this album contains mediocre songs that neither rock nor display acoustic beauty. however, there are a few songs that i consider to be some of heart's best work. "sleep alone" is probably my 2nd favorite heart song of all time just behind "magic man" i think ann's vocal on this one is just off the hook. after all these years, "sleep alone" still rocks my world. the other 2 songs that i love are "how can i refuse" and "language of love" the other tracks i never listen to. fyi: i consider "dreamboat annie" to be one of the ten best albums of all time!!
  • The Best Heart Album You Never Heard

I originally heard this album when I purchased it (as a big black disk) in Germany in 1984. It was exactly what I expected of Heart at the time and gave a preview of things to come in the mid-1980s. I never purchased it on anything other than vinyl and was disappointed when I was unable to locate it after I returned to the States. I was absolutely delighted when I found it on iTunes. If you are a Heart fan and have never heard this album, I can promise you it is worth a buy. It is the best Heart album you have never heard. For me, it is one of the best Heart albums ever.

"Passionworks" is by no means Heart's masterpiece. The band knows it, the fans know it, it's the way it is. However, the set does contain some very good songs, it just doesn't hold together very well as an album. "How Can I Refuse", "Johnny Moon", "Allies", and "Language Of Love" all show what Ann and Nancy are really capable of. While standout like "Sleep Alone" that is driven by Ann's skyrising voice leave me wondering why it wasn't a hit. "Love Mistake" also shows the masterful harmonies that the two sisters create together. So all in all, not for a casual listener but if you're a die hard Heart fan you'll find it much more enjoyable than 1982's "Private Audition" or even 2004's "Jupiter's Darling".

Been a Heart fan since I was a little kid when my older sister would blast "Barracuda" on her stereo. This album was one of my favorites as a kid that got no love on the charts. "Sleep Alone" and "How Can I Refuse" still rock my world. No one can come close to Ann WIlson's pipes.

This was the last album Heart would record with Epic Records. Not to be true to the rumors that have carried with Private Audition as well as Passionworks this album goes in so many different directions. Not for the causal listener, but for the die hard Heart fan. Great album for road trips, I recommend all the songs on this album. This album was not promoted enough and would have succeeded greatly with more promotion and another producer along side of Keith Olsen.
