Tamboura, Music for Deep Meditation

I had a meditation tape years ago that used the tamboura, and other Indian musical instruments to produce really interesting and mentally relaxing vibration. I lost the tape and have been searching for something like that for a long time. This album is close to that. However, It is the same sounds over and over... for the whole hour long recording. Enough already!

First, people seem confused. They think this is a sitar. Well it's not, it only has 4 strings and is a drone instrument. You're not going to hear anything but that. Actually I don't like this album because of that and although the sound is pretty and all I can't meditate to this for some reason. I would go with the didjeridu album instead.

The Tamboura is India's ancient stringed instrument. It's resonant, hypnotic quality is one of the most distinctive of Indian classical music.Perfect for meditation o yoga practice, I love the sound, great cd.

Repetative sounds and meditation go well together for me and that was 1 star for this album. It got the other star for the instrument being a tamboura. It got far less than 5 because the same couple of seconds of tamboura repeated for more than an hour is not worth $10.

I have been searching for this sound to meditate by for years. Being confused it was a sitar I was also frustrated by my failed attempts to find it. I was so excited to see this I bought it instantly. I quickly transferred it to my ipod to take to bed after a stressful day.
I soon found that the sound is very unnaturally looped and some kind of minor chord causes the repetitions to sound very creepy. Instead of relaxaing, I was totally creeped out. Listen carefully before you buy.

I find the tamboura the instrument per excellence for meditation.
The vibrations are very pure and wash the mind with peace and tranquility.
Just play softly during meditation and you are bound to have a deep meditation.

Wow, the first 20 seconds I listened to sounded promising. But then after I bought it I then found out that the sound I hear those first 20 seconds, is the ONLY sound played through out the whole hour. And it's not a very pleasant sound. So, if you want to be annoyed for a hour straight this CD is perfect for you!
Great for meditation and asana practice

This CD demonstrates to me the power of the harmonic overtones in the voice of the tamboura to help the brain go into a very deep place for meditation - so beneficial for healing. And I like its length - I can meditate or exercise for quite a while without interruption.
