Brutally honest, crystal clear

This album is the Side B for "Golden Hour." It's understandable how some listeners wouldn't like it, especially after the upbeat tracks on "Golden Hour." But me? That's precisely why I love it. It's a musical, theatrically-organized reverie of love gained, and then lost. tFrom the title opening track, "star-crossed," the realization it's not meant to be, she circles back to "good wife," sharing how she wanted to be the perfect partner. She then jumps to "cherry blossom," in which she compares herself to a cherry blossom that is beautiful, yet temporary. The reminiscing continues, ending in "hookup scene." The last four tracks speak to her growth through sorrow, and her joy at rediscovering her passion and learning to trust herself again, ending in her cover of "grácias a la vida." The album is a masterpiece of recovery from trauma of any kind.

Having gone through a divorce as Kacey, I relate to the lyrics to so many of the songs. And I love that it’s mainly a ballads/slow songs album. This is how my divorce felt like. Thank you, Kacey. I have to give the album 5 stars because she truly delved into her feelings for this album, and it made me feel like someone else understands the struggles of divorce.

By Sad music the best!
I’m sorry about the divorce. But I have advice. It’s that the only way to be happy is to be sad. It’s not that valuable. But it’s the truth. It’s helps if u want to be happy, to just be sad for now.
Ain’t country

Why can’t she make a country record like her first two albums?! 😩

I love this album. I listen to it as an album and throw songs in playlists I create.
My top 5 songs would be: if this was a movie, easier said, good wife, simple times, camera roll ( and star-crossed of course!)
Least listened to songs: what doesn’t kill me, gracias a la vida

I’m a fairly new fan of Kacey and her music, country music wasn’t really my thing at first or favorite genre but now I appreciate more and it has grown on me quite a bit. This album is not as bad as people make it out to be. How about listen to the whole album and the songs first before trying to write a review
Beautiful in it’s own way.

First off, yes the songs do sound very similar to one another. Some say she sounds monotone, and all of her songs on this album are pretty much minor keys. But, she just went through a divorce which had to be really hard on her. This whole album is based off of her divorce, so you can’t really expect all the songs to be bright and uplifting.
Not everyone is going to like this album, but you should give it a shot, some of these songs are very relatable and a song you can cry to.
I have to agree, it doesn’t sound country, but you can hear her slight accent still.
Overall, Kacey did a great job, and I love to sing along to these songs. “star crossed”, “good wife”, and “breadwinner” are definitely a work of art.
Totally recommend!
