Reviews

  • Just a spelling error I would like fixed

All I was looking for was a ton of Cash's songs that I haven't heard and it gives me just that! However, "In the Sweet By and By" has been spelt incorrectly and no problem if it doesn't/can't get fixed it just irritates me a little!
  • Just like the title of the album you'll get personal with Mr Cash

I have been looking for this very album for almost a year now and I was pleasantly suprised to find it on iTunes. At the price, it is an amazing bargain. For music and readings of this quality, I would have happily paid twice as much as the iTunes store charged. If you are a Cash fan, you must buy this album for its exclusive look at Cash. It is a much more intimate recording session, basically just Cash, a guitar, and the mic, than any other album released by Cash. A great insight into his art.

Pure, Un-refined Cash. This is nothing but the man himself. The soul in his music goes right to the bone.
  • Pre-American Recordings, These Private Masterpieces

Okay ... a full decade before the Rick Rubin-produced American Recordings of the 1990s, Johnny Cash was busy at work on his own archive of solo acoustic sessions. All the press ... without exception ... never knew. The well told tale of Rick Rubin's concept of recording Cash alone with a guitar becomes just that .... a tall tale. Now we know that Cash was doing just that all along. No wonder Cash initially rejected Rubin's offer. The pivotal difference being the American Recordings reflect Rubin's song choices on Cash's behalf; whereas "Personal File" is wholly Cash's own inspired decision track after track. Here is an unbelievably personal documentation of an artist's private work-in-progress. It ranks with Leonardo Da Vinci's notebooks ... truly, it does ... as a rare window inside the mind of a bona fide genius. It is, therefore, an indispensable document and a singular work of art.

This is a must have for those of you who like this style of music. But if you are an idiot and like rap music (besides like 2pac,and Dre) you probobly do not want this. But it is worth a look even if you do like rap music, and hard rock.

These songs have been archived in Johnny's own collection of cuts for years. Finally we get to hear more of country's most genious-prone mind. That in itself is reason to buy the two-disc set.
