Great period piece

Several years after this concert, Elton recorded his show in Australia, backed by the London Philharmonic. The sound was spectacular. Problem was, Elton's voice was SHOT. Kind of like what George Harrison's voice sounded like when he recorded his Dark Horse album, while he was touring, and burning the candle at both ends.
Elton isn't backed by the London Philharmonic on this amazing album. Only Ray Cooper...and not on all the songs, either. But, what truly makes this album special is, Elton is at the utmost top of his game, vocally. He's NEVER sounded beter. EVER.
To hear Elton, in such great voice, with just his piano as backing, gives you chills. Standout songs include "Daniel" (getting a straight piano treatment, giving it a totally different sound than the studio hit), "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" (how does he hit those high notes?), "Better Off Dead," and "Skyline Pigeon." But, really, most of the album is terrific.
Any Elton fan HAS to have this.
Where's YOUR SONG

I just listened to this record @ Hungry Ear Records, Honolulu & the first song on the LP is YOUR SONG. It tore me apart. so much emotion. It's the best song on the album. So why on EARTH would iTunes omit it from their store? Sad. This is a new release folks & well worth your time. Funeral for a Friend is also incredible. Sadly, he seems to be writing about wanting to die in 1979. Those two songs have a lot of emotion, & luckily he survived to be with us today. When you YouTube this concert, you'll be intereted in the cold silent unemotional faces of the Russian audience. It's a stark view of such colorful beauty. I dock iTunes Store a star for omitting the best song on the album. Add it & I'll add a fifth star. Your Song is Our Song... Thank you Elton for releasing this album this week... Enjoy your retirement.
Fabulous.

Love it! Though I want more Elton Live albums, especially with plenty of deep cuts.

An usher gave me a spot above the stage on the base of a spotlight. At the end of the show, he turned and waved while looking at me! Fun show!
Wow!!!
