Another example of Africa's musical geniuses - don't need hi-tech to produce great music.
  • Amazing raw sound. A must buy!

As soon as I heard the 1st song, I jumped up and dance the whole song. I am from Peru and done some Afro dance, so this cd was just "delicious to dance"; every time I heard it I have to at least move my shoulders. Totally love it!

What incredible good fortune to have stumbled across this music.....truly outstanding....fascinating rhythms, great vocals, etc. Hard to stay still when you are listening to this music. You will not be disappointed. Don't bother trying to pluck a song or two - - they are ALL terrific and I highly recommend that you download all of them. Have fun.

Incredible to the senses -- enjoy the wonderful juxposition listening to toe-tapping music recorded in an Åfrican rain forest while walking to work past the Empire State Building and the Chrysler Building! Gets me ready for work, or ready to come home! Every tune is great but particularly like Sakwe, Helene, Le Peuple de la foret!
  • Pure Genius!

This music will lift your spirits, and it's really versatile - great for working out, cleaning house, entertaining, and dancing with small children! We love that it was recorded on an Apple PowerBook hooked up to a car battery, and that the proceeds will go to the people who recorded it. It's simply perfect in every way!
  • Let's get the country right if you're gonna give it five stars.....

From the Website that released the album: Gati Bongo is the amazing and compelling debut album by Baka Gbine, recorded live in the rainforest of Cameroon in 2004 and 2005. It comes as the result of regular visits to the Baka’s homeland by British members of Afro-Celtic band Baka Beyond. Martin Cradick and Su Hart of Baka Beyond have regularly stayed with the Baka in Africa, taking and donating a number of guitars as part of a 15 year collaboration. Using these guitars alongside traditional instruments made in the forest, the Baka Pygmies have created their own band, Baka Gbine - together with a distinct and irresistible musical style. The album was recorded using a solar-powered mobile studio set up under a giant tree deep in the forest, and completed in England at Martin Cradick's studio in Bath. Two songs from the album, title track 'Gati Bongo' and 'Mosumana Colle', were released on iTunes in January 2006. Music is an integral part of life for the members of Baka Gbine and their community. Song and rhythm are essential to their lives for many reasons, including the sheer fun they bring. The Gati Bongo album captures this sense of fun perfectly, bringing this joyous, spiritual and vibrant music to an international audience. The album is a taster of what to expect when Baka Gbine tour the UK with Baka Beyond, at the end of April. Baka Gbine have never performed outside of Cameroon, so the UK tour is a rare opportunity to catch this incredible band. The Baka Pygmies are experts at raising what the Irish would call the 'craic' and what they call the 'Spirit of the Forest', so seeing them perform live promises to be an unforgettable experience. Giving back to the Baka Royalties earned by Baka Gbine are channelled back to the Baka musicians and their communities through the UK based charity Global Music Exchange. This money has already enabled them to win land rights and recognition as Cameroonian citizens, as well as funding the building of a medical centre and a beautiful 'music house'. These positive steps help protect the Baka's forest environment and unique hunter-gatherer way of life. Personally I wasn't particularly impressed by this album, but what do I know.

I've had Gati Bongo now for about a month, just magnifico! Its simply amazing how they recorded it. I heard it for the first time searching world music and when I first heard it I was like WOW! I knew I had to buy the whole album. Makes me really feel that I am in the jungle. Good Job to everyone who made this music!
