Description

#1 bestselling author Ken Follett tells the inspiring true story of the Middle East hostage crisis that began in 1978, and of the unconventional means one American used to save his countrymen. . . .

When two of his employees were held hostage in a heavily guarded prison fortress in Iran, one man took matters into his own hands: businessman H. Ross Perot. His team consisted of a group of volunteers from the executive ranks of his corporation, handpicked and trained by a retired Green Beret officer. To free the imprisoned Americans, they would face incalculable odds on a mission that only true heroes would have dared. . . .

I read this book when it was published & re-read it about 3 years ago. It's a fascinating account of what can be done to help others with grit & determination when the odds are all against those trying to make a difference. The fact that they succeeded is a miracle! One of my favorite books by Ken Follett; Eye of the Needle is still #1! Even better because it really happened! Don't miss it!
  • IMPORTANT STORY

This is an important story about what can be done by people against nearly impossible odds. It is a true story, wonderfully told, and is relevant today (2015) as much as it was when the events of the story were happening (1979). I am better informed about Iran and its way of viewing the world (so different from Western norms), and can see that, sadly, we don't seem to have learned much about how to deal with Iran in the more than three decades since the events of this story took place. I can recommend this to anyone who cares about the history of that time and who loves an exciting, well written story.

This is a great book. I was one of the children in this book and so was my sister. We were adopted from here. My dad worked for EDS and my parents were over in Iran at this time. My sister and I were two of the children smuggled out of the country. All the accounts in this book are real and true. With out the heroics of my parents and Ross Perot, we would not be here today.

Very well-written story about some courageous Americans. If just half of it was true, it would still be outstanding.

If you live in Texas, work with EDS, have a thirst for history, or a taste for adventure, then this is a "must read" If you are a supporter of Jimmy Carter and his administration, this book will challenge you. If you think of only Dana Carvey's impression when you hear the name of Ross Perot, then you need to read this to get your perspective back.
