Description

Disturbing, eerie, and immensely captivating…will send shivers down your spine.’ Reader Review

The imposing gates of Ramsay Hall yawned open. As Serena and 4-year-old Lana walked up the long driveway, little did they know the dark secrets that lay within.

When Serena Green accepted the role of housekeeper for wealthy widower Hayden Ramsay, she never imagined her new home would be Ramsay Hall, an ancient, sprawling mansion in Northern England.

Serena quickly becomes an integral part of the household, making friends with Hayden’s younger son Hugh, despite Jack, his older brother’s, coldness towards her and Lana.

But the hall’s beautiful exterior hides many ugly secrets. Though Serena and Jack begin to grow closer, she’s confused by his behaviour around Lana. What is he guilty of? And is there more to their mother’s death than the Ramsay men will admit, even to themselves?

As the harrowing past of Ramsay Hall unravels, Serena fresh start becomes a fresh horror. She fears for her and Lana’s safety, but what are the bleak secrets in Serena’s own past?

This house is built on a lifetime of lies… and the truth might just bring the walls crashing down.

A twisty, gripping and utterly unputdownable new thriller that fans of Lisa Jewell, C.L. Taylor and Mark Edwards will love.

I started out liking this book but then rather than take us down a journey of romance the author led the readers through the character’s relationship building on lust . The graphic description of sex took away from the storyline and weakened the romance. I did not appreciate the ‘woke’ message in the book and stopped reading it altogether as it was an intrusion again in what began as a really good read. I will not read any more books by this author.

Well. This good story ended so fast… I was surprised. I do recommend it for those who like mysteries .But I would have loved a sequel right after. Learn how Hugh gets on and how Jack takes Serenas SNOOPING❗️❗️❗️
  • A literary disaster that I believe even babies could sense how bad it is. (Spoilers)

I try to be as fair as possible with my reviews. I understand that the entirety of a book should be the basis for the rating. However, out of what I have just read, I am appalled. For the majority of the book, you can’t tell what in the world is going on. A housekeeper working a part-time job for a family is just about the only consistent thing in the whole book. At one point she’s staying the a cottage, the next an attic, the next a loft, at one point even an apartment! The time that passes from one sentence to the next could be minutes, hours, and even days. Serena (the housekeeper’s) daughter is introduced as mute and had not spoken for several weeks. But the first mention of the daughter, she’s talking! She never once exhibited any such thing. The sons of the people Serena is taking care of hate her for no apparent reason and can never quite figure out what Serena is supposed to do. People that neither Serena nor Lana (the daughter) had or could have met they new the names of. A literary disaster that I believe even babies could sense how bad it is. All that is to say, it gets worse. A chapter I couldn’t even finish was the last on the chopping block. For a quick basis, I put question marks when I wasn’t quite sure what was truly happening. Let me set it up for you: Serena wakes up(?) in her attic/loft/cottage. She has dried blood on her nails(?). She falls asleep next to her daughter and has a dream about a child crying. Serena then wakes up and realizes that her daughter IS crying outside the attic/loft/cottage. Jack (a son of the man of the housekeeper is taking care of) is outside TRYING TO HELP Lana who has fallen and scraped her knee. Jack takes Lana into the house to GET THE FIRST AID KIT. SERENA SCREAMS AT JACK THAT HE KISSED LANA, AN 6-8 (never quite clear) YEAR OLD CHILD. Serena claims she saw him do it through the window when there was no way that such a thing happened SINCE SHE WOKE UP AND DIDN’T SEE JACK UNTIL THEY WERE ALMOST IN THE HOUSE. At an earlier point in the book, a woman that Jack is crushing on(?) is described in a child-like way that I almost thought to stop there but, unfortunately, decided to try and continue. I honestly should have known what I was getting myself into when the “reviews” for this book have 0 (ZERO) names, only “reader review.” “A twisting physiological thriller” might be a true description of this book but not in the way you hope. Save yourself and read something that is actually good.

I am so glad…so very glad I found this hook and trusted the reviews! I decided to get back in to reading after listening to a few self-help audiobooks over the years. I’d forgotten how great it was to read fiction books. And, this was such a perfect re-introduction. I would recommend this book to just about anyone! I needes this!
