Description

When my boss asked me for a favor, I didn't know it was going to get me killed.

As a coroner, discovering the cause of death is literally my job but I'm meant to do it in a morgue, not a mega-mansion. The deceased? Lester Harrington, a reclusive wizard with more wealth than parenting skills.

His five entitled brats have gathered to divide daddy's estate but my autopsy has turned up an unpleasant truth; one of them is a killer that just doesn't want to share.

No job is worth this madness, but unless I can find the killer, my only way out of here is in a body bag.

Fans of Kim Harrison, Charlaine Harris, and Darynda Jones, will love this witty, action-packed adventure.

If you want magic and mayhem in a page-turner you won't be able to put down, you can't miss S.C. Stokes' A Date With Death. Scroll up and one-click to get lost in this exciting new urban fantasy world.

  • Missed opportunity

May have rated this higher, but I had gotten this prequel through either BookBub or book funnel for free or cheap, which is the usual way and then, if I enjoy the book, I go for the rest of the series. As I don’t do Amazon or audiobooks, I was upset to find that the remaining 13 books in the series are only available to me as an Amazon e-book or audiobook on Apple so as the title calls attention to a missed opportunity for the author as what would’ve been a 13 book sale is now none.

Not a super mystery, but since I am not really into mysteries I was okay with that. Good action and Kasey made me laugh.

Plot moves along at a quick pace. Starts out normal enough but the amount of mayhem that occurs in one family is a little hard to believe.
  • Love Kasey’s character!

I so enjoy Kasey’s character! I’m glad Samuel Stokes decided to write another story with her. In this book, there is lots of action as Kasey gets caught in the crossfire, literally, after performing an autopsy that proved the victim’s death was a murder. But who was the murderer? This mystery kept looming as each suspect was eliminated (literally). Too many close calls had Kasey fighting for her life. Samuel Stokes descriptions of the action scenes had me riveted to the pages rooting for Kasey all the way. I especially liked the epilogue. I know what it’s like to work in an office and have your food stolen out of the fridge. Kasey handled it superbly! Yessss!

I would like to thank S. C. Stokes for sending me this book to review. A prequel of his A Conjuring A Coroner series that didn’t disappoint. Kasey our heroine is sent to investigate the death of a very rich powerful man in the world. He leaves behind his estate and all his dealings with the one who survives. To top it off they are also a magical family. Full of all sorts of twists and turns making it an unsure and surprising ending with just one left to inherit the now destroyed estate and a solved case for Kasey who survived by shear luck. It was a wild ride as Kasey finds herself with literally collapsing walls around her and one after another deaths if possible even her own. She was sure glad for that assignment to be completed as I was knowing there are now several more tales told about Kasey’s tales as a coroner all as exciting and fun to read. The book is quite exciting and full of murder and destruction so no a good read for those that find that offensive. It also has a bunch of pretend witch craft and those that don’t like that beware, there is absolutely no romance so it is a clean novel so okay for older kids that won’t be disturbed with the other things mentioned it is fairly safe. It is a fun fast moving story that I highly recommend.
