While the nature of this book covers a lot of ground, the downside is missing some significant details. History is not black and white. There are complex issues, people, and situations that must be accounted for. On a few occasions, the author seems to interject a judgment/assessment on history and historical figures that may not be fair, even a negligent misrepresentation due to bias.

American history from grade school, summed up in 70 pages! I learned more reading this short book than I did during my entire time in school.

The history of America is always an amazing read no matter what, however once you get toward the more modern events you can tell the author has a bias and it’s definitely projected into the book. This book is a good read, but I like to read facts rather than the authors opinion of events. Another point I saw in another review of this book about the factual inaccuracy of the Rosa Parks section. Like they said, if one fact is wrong it makes you question the rest of the book.
  • Well Intended, poorly executed

There is much to laud with this work, such as it’s novel approach to the subject matter, making US History extremely accessible to anyone. That said, there are a number of grammar and syntax issues that make the serious reader pause. The largest issue, however, is the inaccuracy of at least one of the articles. The Rosa Parks article states that she worked, lived, and boycotted in Birmingham, AL. This is false! Parks lives worked and initiated the boycott in Montgomery, AL. Such a factual error leads the reader to question everything else provided in the book.

Would recommend for a quick overview to see how much you remember from middle school American history
